HOMOSEXUALITY,

THE IMPOSSIBLE DIALOGUE

Whatever your perspective, we invite you to reopen the conversation.

Whether we are homosexual or heterosexual, we have a soul,

and God loves us, and God loves you.

I am a man, I am a woman with a sexual attraction one way or the other.

Homosexuality is an attraction to someone of the same sex. It is not my identity.

And there is not one homosexuality, but many homosexualities.

It is not a good idea to lump everything together

because the origins of this sexual attraction are different.

We aim to get back to what the Bible really says.

In Christian circles, this is perhaps the most taboo subject!

THE IMPOSSIBLE DIALOGUE

Whatever your perspective,

we invite you to reopen

the conversation.

Whether we are homosexual or heterosexual, we have a soul,

I am a man, I am a woman with a sexual attraction

but many homosexualities.

to lump everything together

because the origins

of this sexual attraction

are different.

We aim to get back to

what the Bible really says.

In Christian circles,

this is perhaps

the most taboo subject!

  • A complex subject we do not dare talk about anymore.

  • Often, too often, it is taboo in the Christian community.

  • As therapists, we see the immense need for answers.

  • There is a great deal of suffering among people who define themselves as such or who have questions about their sexual orientation.

  • The malaise is real. There is a genuine difficulty in forming one's identity.

  • When faced with these questions, we sometimes feel we do not have all the answers.

  • As a believer, as Christians, we may also need to do a mea-culpa because the reaction of Christians is often very harsh.

We are all sinners!

God desires that we welcome those who are suffering and that we reach out to those who are searching and in sin.

We are all sinners, delivered by grace. Since when are we allowed to make a hierarchy between sexual sins? And between sexual sin and other sins? And yet, that's what we've done.

The harsh dialogue or its current absence between our communities, Christians on the one hand and the homosexual communities on the other, may also have been due to Christians taking too hard a stance in their initial reaction, during the 80s and 90s, to the HIV disease, the growing homosexual communities, for which, it has to be said, we were not prepared.

Restarting the conversation

We do not claim to have all the answers. We just want to try to re-establish a conversation, hoping it will be as peaceful and humble as possible.

On the other hand, we want to take positions that are as biblical as possible. There is what is moral. There is what is legal, and there is what is biblical. We will talk about all that, but we aim to get back to what the Bible says.

Homosexuality is not my identity!

You are a man, you are a woman with a sexual attraction to someone of the opposite sex or someone of the same sex. I am a man, I am a woman with a sexual attraction one way or the other. Homosexuality is an attraction to someone of the same sex; it is not my identity!

There is not one homosexuality, but many homosexualities. It is not a good idea to lump everything together because the causes and origins of this sexual attraction are different.

Conversion is synonymous with Personal Encounter with Jesus Christ

You will encounter the term ‘conversion’ frequently. However, whenever the authors use this term, it means a personal encounter of a person with his or her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Conversion is a process that begins with an individual's realization that he or she is a sinner, separated from God. This is called repentance. Following this personal experience, the person chooses to believe in Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for their sins as the sole source of salvation for their soul. They then decide to walk in a newness of life, relying on Christ's daily grace through the presence of the Holy Spirit within them.

We call this "conversion" because it is a radical change of direction in one’s life. Under no circumstances is this term used to refer to "conversion therapy," a process used in some countries as part of religious services against people who define themselves as homosexual. Rachel and Eric firmly and unequivocally condemn this type of coercive behavior, which runs counter to the teachings of the Bible.

The Bible, the foundation of our faith

As Christians, we want to examine what the Bible says. It is our right to rely on this text, the Bible, which is the foundation of our faith.

We can well imagine that some of you will say, "Yes, but the Bible condemns homosexuality, so what are they saying? They are saying things that are counter to what Scripture teaches." And then others who are reading will say, "Yes, but if the Bible condemns it, then what's happening to me?"

The definition of our identity?

We would like to remind you that our identity is not just made up of our sexuality, of course! We should not try to limit someone's identity solely to the sexual factor, even if this is an important part of it.

God loves you, and God loves us. God wants us to be able to pass on the message of salvation regardless of sexual orientation or sexual temptation.
