Food, an Addiction?
Are you crazy? Why Are you talking about food as an addiction. We cannot live without eating! How is it possible for someone to be “addicted” to food?
When you sit in front of a good meal, you don’t think: “I need to be careful, I’m in danger of becoming an addict!”
This is the great challenge of this addiction! Food is a part of everyone’s daily life, regardless of age.
Food is readily available, and not an illegal substance. We are incessantly bombarded by food commercials, everyday. On our way to work, we pass in front of restaurants, snacks or bakeries. Food is constantly within reach.
Addiction to food is a real problem for many people
It’s an addiction that is almost never talked about. It’s not mentioned at church, in public settings, or private conversations, as if it didn’t exist.
The difficulty of this addiction also lies in the fact that there are several types of addictions to food. We are most often familiar with anorexia, and bulimia, but know much less, or don’t recognize, overeating as an addiction.
So yes, we must talk about it, and see what the Bible has to say on the subject, because there exists solutions!
The complexity of food addictions requires the involvement of the medical world and a partnership between several professional to be able to get help.
Addictions like anorexia, or bulimia, come from a need to control our weight, and what we eat, and truly puts the life of those suffering in danger.
Overeating can also be very dangerous. Being overweight has a negative impact on the body, often with dramatic consequences.
Whether it be for women, or men, food comes to compensate for a need, typically an emotional need. For example, it comes to fix, or try to fix, a childhood pain.
There can also be an unhealthy lifestyle, and we compensate for this unhealthy lifestyle by reassuring ourselves through constant eating, or chronic eating, which leads to an addiction to food.
The consequences can become very heavy. Food addictions can be fatal.
If you are in this situation, you need help!
We want to help you find solutions and the path to deliverance!
Addiction to food is a real challenge!
At first, we eat to compensate, then we eat to feel safe, and then we eat because it fills a hole in our soul. Food doesn’t just fill up the stomach! We are trying to stay in control and protect ourselves…
